Alana is a protagonist of the comic, Saga (Image, 2012 series), in which she is a member of a winged species (the "Wings") native to the planet, Landfall. She is drafted into the army after she fails out of college, but she doesn't perform well there either. Her first combat experience sees her reprimanded for cowardice and transferred to the planet Cleave to be a prison guard. While on Cleave, she meets Marko, a member of an unnamed rival species native to Cleave, the moon of Landfall. These two species have long been locked in battle, but Alana and Marko fall in love, Alana deserts the army, and she helps Marko escape the prison. They go on the run together, get married, and Alana gets pregnant with their child, Hazel: the highly controversial first offspring of these two species.
