Joan of Arc is a warrior from France in the 1400s who claimed to see visions and hear voices from God. It was not God, in fact, but the Witchblade speaking to her. Joan used the Witchblade to end the Siege of Orleans and aid the French in their war with England. While history tells us that Joan of Arc was burned at the stake on May 30, 1431, it was actually her lover, Gilles de Rais, who had sworn a blood oath to protect her. Joan resurfaced in Paris five years later with her name changed to Joan of Armoises, until one day both she and the Witchblade disappeared.
