Evan Calhoun is a disgraced engineer living in a post-apocalyptic world in which Gigā, giant mechs, fought a war between themselves which lasted centuries. After they concluded their battle, they let humanity live inside them, and humanity began worshipping them as gods. When Evan comes across a Gigā which appears to have been murdered, both his society and the fascistic religious order controlling it are thrown into chaos.
