Gretel

Gretel is a character in the Zenescope Entertainment comics universe who leaves home, fed up with her stepmother. Her brother, Hansel, worried about her, follows her into the forest. Hansel leaves a trail of breadcrumbs for the two to find their way home, but birds eat the trail, so Hansel and Gretel end up lost in the woods. They come upon a cottage and are invited in by the young woman who lives there. She provides them sweets and water, and a place to sleep. Soon, Hansel is caged and Gretel is bound and gagged. The young woman forces Gretel to do chores for her to ensure their safety. Gretel finds the key to free Hansel, but the two are confronted by the woman, who has turned into a monster. Hansel dies in the confrontation, but Gretel pushes the monster into the fireplace, and manages to survive.
