Cindy Monroe

• Also known as

In the Zenescope Entertainment comics universe, specifically in the tale of 'Cinderella,' Cindy Monroe is a girl who has a hard time fitting in at school. She is not accepted by her peers, who make fun of her, and she just wants some friends and a chance at love. She attends a lecture given by Sela Mathers on the fairy tale of Cinderella, and Sela tells how Cinderella's family treats her terribly, forcing her to do all of the housework, abusing her emotionally and physically. Locked in a storm shelter, Cinderella is visited by the Dark One disguised as her fairy godmother. She promises to grant all of Cinderella's wishes (including punishment of her stepmother and stepsisters) if she will serve her in the afterworld. Cinderella agrees. Cinderella attends the ball and charms the prince, leaving behind her glass slipper as the clock strikes midnight. Back at Cinderella's home, the stepsisters and stepmother are attacked by crows, and Cinderella lets them die as she waits for the prince to arrive and fit her foot with her glass slipper. He comes and takes her with him to be his princess. Cindy Monroe, unlike the other Grimm Fairy Tales characters, is framed as a corrupted character and returns in later issues as an agent of the Dark One.
