According to Hawkman (DC, 1993 series) #13 (September 1994), the Hawk God is a manifestation in the form of a gigantic hawk being, of an angel chained in Hell. This is the being responsible for the destruction of Thanagar. About to unleash its fury upon Earth, it is freed by Katar Hol (Hawkman) and is able to return to its home realm. As a result Katar Hol is merged with Carter and Shiera Hol, the original Hawkman and Hawkgirl and possibly many others, to form a new Hawkman.
