Archeologist Ed Dawson finds a Mithra Meteor, a mystical artifact that turns Dawson into a lion creature, apparently an avatar of an alien lion race. When in this form he has powers associated with the standard super-being. He also becomes wild and uncontrollable, with a desire to kill. He has continual battles with Hawkman (Katar Hol), who always seems to just be able to return Dawson to his normal self.
