Wither is a mutant, recruited by Dani Moonstar, who decays organic matter with a "death touch". He began honing his powers at Xavier's Institute, but after an attack by Donald Pierce and his Reavers, Wither becomes worried about not being able to control his powers, so he leaves. Emma Frost brings him back to join her squad of Hellions. Kevin is one of the few mutants who retains his powers after M-Day and, thinking he had de-powered, he touches Laurie's hand and withers it. Depressed, he leaves again. While away, Wither joins Selene's inner circle and becomes romantically involved with her. Seemingly killed by Elixir in the final battle on Necrosha, Wither is reborn at the hand of The Five, and reappears on Krakoa.
