Michael Pointer, unaware he was a mutant, was able to absorb the powers of other mutants. When Scarlett Witch eliminated the powers of most of the mutants on Earth, the gestalt of all these powers, called the Collective, was absorbed by Pointer. Not in control of himself he ended up killing everyone in Alpha Flight. Eventually he wound up on Genosha where the Collective gestalt tried to transfer itself to Magneto. Free of the gestalt, and after an examination by Mister Fantastic, Pointer was given the name 'Guardian' and placed on the Canadian Omega Flight team to make up for his previous actions.
