Dr. Vic Norman was a biophysicist who specialized in studying the impact of radiation on living organisms. After an earthquake destroyed the laboratory where he worked, he and his colleagues were altered, gaining superhuman abilities and taking on the name the Lords of Light and Darkness. They engaged in battle against the X-Men and Spider-Man before being transported into space. There, they underwent another transformation, becoming an energy state that appeared to observers on Earth as a new star.
