Superman was extremely disappointed in his son, and believed he was not responsible enough to wield his powers properly. On his Clark Junior's 14th birthday, Superman exposed his son to gold kryptonite, permanently removing his powers. Superman soon regretted his decision, and used Kandorian technology to transfer his own powers into his son, rendering himself powerless.
