The Lord of Life, whose real name is unchronicled, was a scientist with the ability to bring people back from the dead. The exact nature of the method, including if it was purely technological or included a mystic aspect, is unknown, however, in addition to those who died naturally, the method also could be used on those he had put into medically induced comas via an unknown drug. The resurrected had to undergo monthly treatments from the Lord of Life’s “ray of life” in order to stay alive. Withholding an antidote, the Lord of Life used the resurrected’s dependency on the ray, as well as threats of physical violence, to control them into acting as his minions and carry out his bidding. The Lord of Life also possessed at least a limited ability to mentally control those he resurrected and, seemingly, was able to project himself into a ghastly spectral form. After being injected with a dose of his own drug by Dr. Occult, the Lord of Life died at the hands of those he had resurrected.
