Sir Seaton Begg

Seaton Begg is a character created by the British author Michael Moorcock. He belongs to the larger body of stories that make up the Moorcock Multiverse, which is connected to the author’s broader concept of the Eternal Champion. Seaton Begg first appeared in 1965 in a story by Moorcock published in the British science fiction magazine New Worlds, an influential publication associated with the experimental New Wave movement in science fiction. In the stories, Begg is described as a “metatemporal detective.” This means he investigates mysteries that occur not only in a single place or era, but across multiple timelines and alternate realities within the multiverse. The character was conceived as a tribute to the classic pulp detective Sexton Blake, a hugely popular British sleuth often considered a pulp-era counterpart to Sherlock Holmes. Seaton Begg has also appeared in comic books connected to Moorcock’s fictional universe. He was featured in the series Michael Moorcock's Multiverse, released in 1997 under the Helix imprint of DC Comics, and later made an appearance in Alan Moore's Tom Strong.
