Héphaïstos est un humanoïde mâle originaire d'Olympe. Il est l'un des principaux dieux du Panthéon olympien. Il est de haute taille, brun ou chauve, boîteux, et est le maître forgeron de l'Olympe. Son père est Zeus, sa mère est Héra, il a pour frère Arès (qui lui a ravi Aphrodite), et pour sœurs Erida, Eris, Hébé. Ses oncles sont Hadès et Poséidon. Il a aussi des demi-sœurs : Artémis, Athéna, Hélène ; et des demi-frères : Hercule, Apollon, Hermès, Dionysos. Il est marié à Aglaé (épousée après sa déconvenue avec sa demi-sœur Aphrodite).
