Les Sentinelles sont des robots artificiellement intelligents conçus pour chasser les mutants. Bien qu’un prototype ait été développé à San Francisco en 1906, les Sentinelles modernes ont d’abord été créées par le Dr Bolivar Trask. Son intention était de les utiliser pour sauver l’humanité de ce qu’il considérait comme une menace imminente à l’existence de l’espèce en raison du nombre croissant de mutants émergents.
