After being raised by an abusive father, a young Patrick Dale became addicted to drugs and spent much of his youth in juvie. Dale's genius uncle employed the troubled youth to help him build a homemade, prototype suit of cyborg armor. But after his uncle’s suddenly died, Dale inherited the Wir armor, using it recklessly. After he was caught, as a favor to Dale's mother — who was a former Copra office employee — Sonia Stone offered him a job instead of prison time.
