Theseus
generic, Greek and Roman mythology
- Also known as
Aethra, daughter of King Pittheus of Troezen, allowed herself to become impregnated by a drunk King Aegeus of Athens, then snuck away and went to lay with Poseidon. This double paternity gave her son Theseus a combination of both mortal and divine characteristics. Theseus was best known for slaying the Minotaur, a beast that was half man and half bull, in the Labyrinth of King Minos in Crete.
