Hera was furious about her husband Zeus' many affairs. Every time she attempted to catch him consorting with nymphs, one nymph named Echo would distract her with lengthy conversations. When Hera realized what was happening, she put a curse on Echo. From that moment on, Echo could not speak except to repeat the last words spoken to her.
