Will Franz

  • Born 1950-11-14 · Died 2026-05-24

Will Franz was 15 years old when Charlton editor Dick Giordano bought his first stories and 16 when they were published. Though Will's early comics career was brief, his series creations for Charlton are still among the most highly regarded war comics stories of their era. Between 1967 and 1970, Franz wrote "The Iron Corporal," "The Devil's Brigade," and the epic "The Lonely War of Capt. Willy Schultz," all with artist Sam Glanzman. He also wrote several stand-alone war stories for Charlton from 1967 to 1970 and 1972 to 1973, as well as contributing one story to DC in 1972. Additional biographical material can be found in Comic Book Artist (TwoMorrows Publishing, 1998 series) #9 (August 2000).
