Max Bunker

Max Bunker is an Italian comic book writer and publisher, best known as the co-author of **Alan Ford**. Bunker’s career began in 1960, when he co-founded Editoriale Corno together with his brother-in-law Andrea Corno. In 1962 he wrote the Western-style comic Maschera Nera (Black Mask), before going on to create several influential series in collaboration with Magnus (Roberto Raviola), including **Kriminal**, **Satanik** and **Maxmagnus**. During the early 1960s, especially for short prose pieces and appendices in series like Kriminal, Luciano Secchi frequently adopted a range of pseudonyms, such as Max Schulberg, Morton W. Harris, Alex Monday, Gomez Vargas, James Reel and Neil Horron, reflecting the period’s preference for Anglo-sounding names. Bunker and Magnus’ most successful creative endeavour remains Alan Ford, first published in May 1969 and running for 75 issues. After Editoriale Corno closed in 1984, Bunker founded Max Bunker Press and continued publishing Alan Ford, collaborating with artists such as Paolo Piffarerio.
