Ross Hughes

Ross Hughes was born in Winter Park, FL in 1972. His first exposure to comics as a child was through reading an issue of Superboy & The Legion of Superheroes in his dentist's waiting room. From there he was hooked. Saturday morning cartoons furthered his love for comics and comic-book characters through animated shows like Batman, Superfriends, Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends and much much more. He would begin collecting comics as soon he figured out how to earn his allowance and would ride his bicycle miles to his favorite comic book stores to sift through back-issues of his favorites. He collected nearly every title from both Marvel and DC throughout the 80's and into the 90's, routinely coming home with stacks of comics each weekend. Like many who fell in love with the medium, he began drawing at a young age and creating his own characters and comics to share with his friends and dreaming about working for DC Comics. But life took him in another direction and he left the idea of working in comics behind to begin working in the space program after moving to Houston, TX. He never lost touch though and would still read collected trades from time to time. In the early 2000's, he happened across a message board post in which the poster had digitally colored the cover to JLA/Avengers #3 for fun. Ross was bitten by the bug again. He started researching the process of comic-book coloring and signing up for various comic-related message boards. Eventually trying it out for himself and posting the results to get feedback. It didn't start out as a step in the direction to working in comics, but that's what it became. Receiving his first paid commission in 2005, he began to set his sights on improving with a more serious eye towards fulfilling a life-long dream of being published. Eventually, Ross would catch the eye of Brian Miller of Hi-Fi Studios and begin doing color work for the studio on a part-time basis with his first assignment being the coloring of two pages of a WWE Undertaker comic. He did work for Hi-Fi Studios for several years off and on and has colored numerous independent comics over the years. He has done work for titles such as Legion of Superheroes, Action Comics, Detective Comics, Justice League, Suicide Squad, Spider-Man, Supergirl, Teen Titans, and many more. He has colored images for Hasbro, the Chicago Bears, and Crayola. Having moved back to Orlando, FL following the shut-down of the Space Shuttle Program, Ross is still coloring and working on several independent projects like The Adventures of Starman, Cosmos, Spider-Squirrel, Titan, Legend & The Vanguard, and others as well as other commission work.
