Derek Hockridge

Derek Hockridge obtained a degree from the University of Wales, Cardiff, and had teacher training at St Edmund Hall, Oxford. He was a French teacher at Manchester Grammar School, then a lecturer at what was then Leicester Polytechnic (now part of De Montfort University.) He is best known as the co-translator, along with Anthea Bell, of the Astérix comic books. A member of the actors' union, Equity, he appeared in Crown Court, and also featured in minor parts in Brideshead Revisited and Jewel in the Crown.
