Stage, radio and television performer; Smith hosted variety shows on radio and TV and introduced several future celebrities; she was also a best selling record album artist. She was inducted into the Radio Hall of Fame, the North Carolina Music Hall of Fame, and received the Presidential Medal of Freedom.
