Harvey Dunn

Dunn was a member of the Brandywine School art movement and studied with Howard Pyle. He was an artist-correspondent with the American Expeditionary Forces in World War One; most of these drawings are housed at the Smithsonian Institution. He was a prolific illustrator, providing drawings and paintings for books and magazines such as Collier's Weekly, Harper's Magazine, The Saturday Evening Post, The American Legion Monthly magazine and Scribner's. Dunn's most famous painting, The Prairie is My Garden, along with more than a hundred other works, are in the collection of the South Dakota Art Museum. Harvey Dunn was a noted art instructor, teaching at the Grand Central School of Art. Among his students were artists indexed here in the Grand Comics Database: Norman Saunders, Dean Cornwell, and Arthur Sarnoff.
