Synopsis

Pam wanted to have both Alan and a career as an actress, but Alan was concerned that marriage and a career wouldn't mix. Pam had pointed to the twenty year marriage of actress Elaine Dalton as an example of both working. But later Elaine tells Pam her story and Pam realizes Elaine's greatest acting job was in convincing the world that she had a happy marriage. The telegram Pam receives from Elaine congratulating her for "a long and happy run" is actually congratulating her on her marriage to Alan as Pam has decided to give up acting and marry Alan.
