Synopsis
During Egypt's 18th dynasty ca. 16th century B.C., Hatshepsut, daughter of Thutmosis II, co-ruled Egypt with her much younger half-brother, Thutmosis III. Upon Hatshepsut's death, Thutmosis (more commonly called Thutmose) gained the throne. When Syria rebelled against Egypt's control, he laid siege to the walled city of Megilla for seven months until the Syrians surrendered. Later, he sent armies into other realms for seventeen years straight, conquering them, expanding the Egyptian empire to its largest extent.
