Synopsis
Paula takes a job in a department store after high school to help support her family, even though she dreamed of attending college. Paula falls in love with college professor George but his family thinks she’s not educated enough to be his wife. Bookstore customer Girard, a wealthy scholar and businessman who likes Paula, blackmails George’s father into permitting the marriage by threatening to withhold endowment funds from his college.
