The issue focuses on golden age publisher Fawcett. The cover features a reproduction of art from C. C. Beck for "Captain Thunder," a character that would be renamed Captain Marvel (Fawcett). The hero is breaking free from wall chains, being shot at and threatened by another man with a knife. Taken from unpublished cover art developed for a rapid series of ashcans in 1939 that quickly led to Whiz Comics (Fawcett, 1940 series) #2 (February 1940).
