The Joker: Year of the Villain #1

Year of the Villain tie-in.

DC initially sent free copies of this variant to retailers who 1) had received copies of Superman (DC, 2018 series) #14 and Supergirl (DC, 2016 series) #33 (both of which had disputed racial portrayals of some members of the Legion of Super-Heroes), 2) destroyed their copies of those issues at DC's request, and 3) signed an affidavit to that effect. This Brian Bolland Retailer Gift Variant Edition was intended as a thank you for those retailers, as opposed to other retailers who sold their copies of the Superman and Supergirl issues online for high prices. However, there were other retailers who never received their copies of the Superman and Supergirl issues because they were pulled from their shipments before they received them. Those retailers never had a chance to destroy their copies and sign an affidavit, so they were deprived of an opportunity to receive this Bolland Variant Edition, and they complained to DC about it. In response, DC ended up sending out a copy of this special Brian Bolland Retailer Gift Variant Edition to all retailers, arriving in stores on October 30, 2019.

There is no price on the cover, instead it is labelled "For Promotional Use Only". Copies have been sold for premium prices online.
