Synopsis
Superman continues walking across the country, visiting Des Moines, Iowa, and then Kansas, where Lois is investigating charges that a chemical plant is poisoning the local ecosystem, when the plant explodes. Superman stops the fire and stabilizes the plant. He confirms the problem, but the workers convince him that the plant would have to be shut down because of the compliance cost, and they need the jobs. They even convince him to stop Lois from running the story. Lois can't believe it and leaves.

This issue contains content that was originally solicited for the previous issue. The content that was originally solicited ended up in issue #708. The change was announced in a press release dated 2010-11-19.
This is the first issue since 1955 to NOT carry the Comics Code Authority stamp on the cover. This seal had appeared on every issue since #96.
