Synopsis
The Hodag is a mythical creature from Rhinelander, Wisconsin, described as having a broad, horned head, razor-sharp teeth and claws, and curved spikes running down its back. According to legend, it was forged from the ashes of brutalized oxen. The oldest known sighting was in 1893, and while there have been no recent sightings, Rhinelander holds an annual Hodag festival. The creature gained fame thanks to an infamous 1873 photo, making it one of the most well-known mythical creatures in the Northwoods.
