Based on characters created by Ross Bagdasarian (Sr.) and revived by Ross Bagdasarian (Jr.) and Janice Karman (Mrs. Bagdasarian, Jr.). The Chipmunks began as recording artists in 1958, and were first animated in 1961. Their first comic book appearance was Dell 4-Color #1042 (Oct., 1959), as The Three Chipmunks.
