Synopsis

American soldier Peter marries shop clerk Luise while he is deployed in West Germany. After Peter is discharged, Luise and her brother Ludwig are reunited with him in his hometown in Ohio. Luise is shocked to learn Peter is a welder in a factory and they must live modestly in a small house. Luise doesn’t like the town or people but is impressed by Lane, playboy son of the factory owner. Ludwig runs away and while Peter is searching for him, Lane makes a pass at Luise and is rejected. When Peter and Ludwig return, Luise apologizes for her actions.
