Synopsis

At Judge Henry's request an unnamed Easterner comes to Henry's ranch in Sunk Creek, Wyoming. There he meets the Virginian, an honorable and capable man, and he tells the story of the Virginian's run-ins with his antagonist Trampas, his falling in love with newly-arrived school teacher Molly Wood, the painful hanging of his friend Steve for cattle rustling, and his final accounting with a belligerent Trampas.
