Prince Valiant #39

In this volume is the transition of the art from Hal Foster, due to health reason, to his eventual successor John Cullen Murphy. But before choosing John Cullen Murphy, Gray Morrow and Wally Wood were also considered candidates for the job. Therefore # 1757, 1760, 1762, 1764, 1765, 1766, 1767, 1769, 1770, 1771, 1772 do not have Hal Foster signature and are by the preceding artists. Although in this volume in the editor's note it states that Rick Norwood believes that # 1765, 1767, 1770 are not by these artists but are in fact by other artists. However this is contradicted by Pocho Morrow, Gray Morrow's widow, who states that these are by Gray Morrow (See page 69 of the The Definitive Prince Valiant Companion, Fantagraphics Books, 2009).
