About Yen Press

Yen Press was set up in 2006 by Kurt Hassler and Rich Johnson as a manga imprint of the book publisher Hachette, at a point when manga was moving decisively out of comic shops and into bookstores.

It publishes translated manga alongside light novels — illustrated Japanese prose fiction — and original English-language comics. The light-novel line in particular built an English-language market for a format that had barely existed outside Japan.

The Japanese media group Kadokawa took a controlling interest in 2016, making Yen Press a joint venture between a major American trade publisher and a major Japanese one.
