The Cyclopes
generic, Greek and Roman mythology
The Cyclopes were three sons of the primordial deities, Uranus (Sky) and Gaia (Earth), who shared the common characteristic of having a single eye. They were also siblings to the twelve Titans and the three Hecatoncheires. In order to maintain power, the Cyclopes had been imprisoned in Tartarus by their father Uranus after their birth. When Zeus later freed the Cyclopes, and they repaid the gods by giving Zeus his thunderbolts, Poseidon with his trident, and Hades with his cap of invisibility. The gods used these weapons to defeat the Titans.
