Earth-89149 is a parallel reality from which a hostile military force known as the Annex Squads originated to invade Earth-616. This reality was first introduced in the Astonishing X-Men story arc "Ghost Boxes" (2008) by Warren Ellis and Simone Bianchi. The inhabitants of Earth-89149 were forced to seek out other dimensions for annexation because their own world had become "toxic for the mind and the body" due to the excessive use of Ghost Boxes, trans-universal transportation devices. Earth-89149 was seemingly destroyed when Beast fired a giant experimental laser into a Ghost Box portal, targeting the source reality. However, some characters theorized it might have only been a "correspondence-travel reality" or a staging area, leaving its ultimate fate slightly ambiguous.
